Tina Margareta Nilssen was born in Bern, Switzerland, and grew up in Trondheim, Norway. She began playing the violin and piano when she was five years old, at the Trondheim municipal music school and continued her piano studies at the Trondheim music conservatory in 1996 with Jørgen Larsen. She subsequently went on to study with Professor Jiri Hlinka (Barratt Due Institute of Music, Oslo), Professor Heide Görtz (Universität der Künste, Berlin) and Professor Jens Harald Bratlie (Norwegian Academy of Music, Oslo) where she completed her post-graduate performance degree in 2005.
Tina Margareta Nilssen has performed as a soloist, Lied accompanist as well as in various chamber music ensembles in Norway, Germany, Denmark, Spain, Austria, Switzerland, Russia, England and the USA. She has received a number of public and private grants for her performances.
She teaches students and gives master classes in the Timani-technique, specializing in the analysis of the use of body in connection with the outcome of sound and phrasing on all instruments and for singers. She teaches piano at Barratt Due Music Institute in Oslo, and Timani- technique at NTNU, KHiO (National Opera Academy) amongst other.
